It amazes me that we qualified and professional people all buy in to what ever we read on the internet, and never perform our own research.
The source is often cited as The Awakening Ray, Vol. 4 No. 5, The Gnostic Centre Reproduced in Niti issue of April, 2002 at p. 10 a periodic publication of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Delhi.
It is a general misconception that this is a part of Lord McCauley’s speech to British Parliament because Lord McCauley arrived in India on 10th June 1834 and returned to England in early 1838. If in 1835 he was in India then how could he have delivered a speech in the British Parliament. Let me also add that he arrived in India by a 3 month long journey by ship so there is no chance that the Lord made a quick visit to England for delivering this speech.

Here's a question for you it's 2008, what does a statement made in 1835 have to do with immigration into the USA?
For example 27th Oct 1838 the Missouri Governor (LW Boggs) issued extermination order against Mormons allowing for Mormons to be shot on sight. But Mitt Romney is safe to campaign there because the order was rescinded on 25th June 1976

Flying through Asian Countires is not an option for people residing in East Coast. I am travelling to India in the next week Via Amsterdam. I am told by the consulate that we do not need Transit Visas. My H1B Visa is expired and I am travelling on AP. Did any one hear differently?

Good idea kumar1, once this rollercoaster ride is over and settled.. we should start an anti-Lou Dobbs Youtube session. I will definately contribute in whatever way I can.. uploading videos, editing etc.
Lou Dobbs and CNN runs an hour long "Hate Immigrants" Program every night Monday to Friday. IMHO you misinterpreted the memo. An employer can definitely choose not to hire based on immigration status. This has happened in the past (circa 2001) and evidently many employers do not hire H1B or any employees that require "job related" sponsorship. From the same link, in the next para it says that employers can clearly specify that they will NOT do sponsorship without violating the law. The only question is what is considered a sponsorship, any restricted position (in terms of job responsibility) can constitute a sponsorship (where by employers have legal burden beyond what it takes to hire a US Citizien/Permanent Resident for the same position). H1B definitely falls into this category and EAD borders that category. I am not an expert in labor laws but my experience says that employers have too much control on who they want to hire they can get by with almost anything. The biggest hurdle against any law suit is, EAD is an obscure document with very little clarity about rights that come with it and its usage. It was supposed to be an interim document whose usage only now is becoming main stream. May be one law suit or precedent will clarify it all. But once again employers will get by it the same way they get by with age, ethic, gender and racial descrimination.
The bottom line is if a corporation has decided upon a certain policy (how much stupid and discriminatory it may be) it is futile to fight it becasue they will do it one way or the other. It is better to find an employer who respect your talent and what you bring to their organization as opposed to what kind legal papers you are carrying. What's happening with the EAD situation generally happns in a tight labor markets and we are in one now. In 2005-06 these same employers were fighting with each other to get as many H1B by filing twice the application allowed on the same day and now suddenly EAD is a problem. According to this website Capital One has 1200 H1B's.

I dont know why everybody started to spit on ohio law firm. They just pointed out some news that they got from AILA, right? Lets hope its just a rumor and USCIS doesn't proceed with this revised thing. I am pretty sure that wont happen. Dont worry guys, but dont blame everything on ohio firm. I am upto 14 letters signed, sealed and mailed to the President. I am waiting on a few more to come....It took probably an hour over the past week. Guess what...in the process I educated over 20 Americans about our issues. Guys this can have a cascading effect if we talk to people we know and get these letters. We all need to step up and actively talk to all Americans we know and get these letters. They are our support bank when its time for larger fixes and we need Americans to call their Congressman & Senators to help us.
Talk to EVERYONE you know and get a letter signed. It would be great if everyone mentioned the number of letters they have got when they put out posts on this thread. Lets not just talk the talk but WALK the TALK!!!:D

I must say y'all are doing a commendable job. I have contributed $$ and would do so more in the future if needed.
I remember Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist saying that the comprehensive immigration reform bill will be handled in February 2006. Is the schedule still the same. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hope that everyone of us stuck in this immigration hell-hole will get a relief from the comprehensive immigration reform bills that (hopefully) will be passed in 02/06.
