It really is amazing how much hot air has been generated on this thread over a well established transit visa requirement.
The reason transit visas are required in the UK is that many passengers with an intention to transit the UK have stayed. The transit visa was introduced as a way of making sure (as much as possible) that the passenger has the intention and the ability to transit the UK and to enter a third country.
The list of nationals that are required to have a visa to transit the UK represents a list of countries where there has been a particular problem with over stayers. It is not race based, but merely an effort to target the problem.
It really does not matter what anyone thinks about the transit visa requirement because it is UK law. Everyone has a choice whether or not to transit the UK. Going back to the original post, to book a ticket without researching visa requirements and then trying to deflect personal responsibility by blaming the visa requirement is ridiculous.
If one doesn't like transit policy of a country, just avoid that transit point, rather than putting curse on that country ( or try changing the policy of that country through democratic means, if one can ).

Is there any provision in any of the upcomming immigration bills that allows for "Ability to file for I485 even with visa number unavailability.". I know that
some of the provisions in Hagel (S. 1916, 1917, 1918, & 1919) Specter (unnumbered draft) bills have provisions for removal of numerical limits on adjust of status for people who have an advanced degree from US.
But is there any provision in any of the immigration bills which allows for "Ability to file for I485 even with visa number unavailability." like the one that was in s 1932. This would be easy to pass as Green card numbers would stay the SAME and no major modification is done to the existing law
hydboy,
No one still knows what the verbiage in the Comp. immig Bill is like. So it is possible that the provisions of S1932 be included in that bill 9which is one of immigration Voice's agenda). So, to answer your question, currently there isn't any that we know of, but w/o acting on it ourselves, it may not ever happen :-)

AILA Follow-up to Update on July Visa Availability

Subject: Follow-up to Update on July Visa Availability
Further to the email earlier today about July visa availability:
Several members have asked whether they should continue in their efforts to
file adjustment of status applications for employment-based cases. Of course
, this is a matter for each attorney's best judgment, but note that:
-It is not certain what day the revised Bulletin will be issued.
-It is possible that the revised bulletin will not issue at all--efforts to
stop this unprecedented action are being pursued.
-If you "front desk" the application, i.e. decide it is futile to file, and
a remedy opens up later, having submitted the applications may improve the
chances of utlizing whatever fix might be available.
-If you do submit the adjustments, be sure to use a method whereby you can
document delivery, and keep that documentation for each client.
-AILF's Legal Action Center is seeking plaintiffs with respect to both the
adjustment applications that were or are expected to be rejected for June
and the adjustment applications that are expected to be rejected in July. Go
to InfoNet Document # 07062975: http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=22798 on InfoNet for the Potential Plaintiff Questionnaire and related FAQ.
We cannot predict now what will happen, but will continue to update the
membership as developments occur.

Hello every one,
1. If they are legally here for 10 years (With approved I-140 and waiting for Adjustment of Status without current date).
2. If they have earned full 40 points in Social Security
3. If they have paid the tax continuously for 10 years
4. If they own a house and paying Mortgage (adding weightage to the Economy boost)
and
5. If they do not have any criminal records in these 10 years.
You know some people meet all these conditions with the exception of approved i-40 and don't even have a pending Green Card application because their employers are just waiting for their H1 to be used up and then "kick them out".
I think if you meet all the conditions enumerated above, u should be automatically given a Green Card.

However, if there is so much noise over immigration in general, then atleast there is hope of comprehensive immigration bill being considered by Senate which will lead to overall comprehensive legislation -- a vehicle that can carry legal immigration reform also.

I went for H1B extn (approved Nov 2007) stamping on 15th Jan at New Delhi consulate. The person checking the papers at the outside window wrote - PIMS found on my appl form.
I checked with the VO after the interview if I will experience any PIMS delay. He replied he would not have been able to process my application without PIMS entry being found and everything is good.
Got the passport back on 18th.

wrong calculation 5000/2500=2. It is 2 cents perminute. Have you used C# program?:)
Any way with vonage, one can call other friends in all other 60 counties and others part of us too..
Common  Need a math teacher here!!
5000 mins = 2500 cents
1 min = ?
(1/5000)*2500 = 0.5 cent per min.

If rumors are true there is no point in sending I485 application if State dept announces that Visa is not available on July 2nd Morning. If confusion or rumor is cleared then Lawyers can send the application. That stand may be correct. But what if State Dept announces on Wednesday. Then those who are filed on Monday and Tuesday will get EAD and AP. I hope these rumors will not become true
If they have info about non-availbility they will announce now rather than waiting for monday morning . Also they will be in deep trouble by moving the dates without accepting single application . As AILA reported they will do it either on monday evening/tuesday quotaing the number of application received

If possible clarify the following from lawyer:
What are the negative affects of multiple I-485 on your adjustment of status? [Delay, Interview, RFE, Other ?]
Does filling two I-485 (AOS) is considered as willful violation or fraud?
Does filling two I-485 on two different I-140 (for different positions) could lead to revocation due to fraud?

Ahuja,
Why do you even need a GC, my friend. Stick with H1B visa. the only difference between GC and H1 is independence of employer and why do you even bother about it. You can always get a job where you want, buy a house now, sell it tomorrow, then after 6 years, go out for a year, come back on new H1.
As I said, people here are highly motivated and do want to follow the rules and achieve bigger things in lives, creating value in the process. But not many are willing to wait for 5 more precious years, after your greencard takes 10 years. Or 15 years on GC and 5 years for Citizenship. Once you work very hard, then you tend to ask for the right fruit, not just take anything. And whatever the Citizenship requirements are.. they will be met while waiting for theis damn GC..
I am just hitting at the attitude.. not person.. sorry...
Assume your school makes your 4 year course extended to 6 years and in the process makes you do a lot more..What do you ask at the end of it. 4 year degree or a 4+2 year degree.. .something similar..
Remember the lambi race ka goda.. He didnt pick the coin tossed at him.. anyone.. which movie.. ???
Very well analyzed response. Atleast now those 2 guys start thinking about it in a different way.

The funniest thing is 3/4 of the countries on the list are part of the erstwhile British empire. How's that for irony. They loot and dominate you on one hand and subject you to inane laws on the other. Here is a classic example of what is good for the goose is not good for the gander.
But here is another link to a funny article on the reverse

BTW Did they exclude any African country from the list?

I am an ex British Airways employee, and I spent one year in 1997 living in London city. Please understand that the level of customer service one gets in USA, is just a dream in UK. Mishandling customers, showing a complete arrogant behavior, and a total disregard for their basic customer rights are just a few business traits in UK. I witnessed couple of BA strikes at Heathrow, and beleive me after what I saw, I will never travel with any british airline in future. You are lucky that you just saw a tip of the iceberg and came to your conclusions. It starts from their embassy, and continues throught the airlines, security checks, baggage handling, staff etc.
I like your comments about Koh-i-noor. If it was any other country, they would have happily returned it to the country where it genuinly belong. Oh by the way, during my stay at UK, I had to remind their couple of citizens about what exactly the phrase "Be British" means.

Its a little hard to understand how the issue of 'work authorization' cannot be raised during interview or hiring process.
The details escapes me... at some point in the long past I was looking into what kind of questions employers should and shouldn't ask. If I come across anything again then I will surely post.
As far as EAD is concerned, the employers shouldn't discriminate. Especially if more than 90 days are left on it since that's the time-frame govt promises to issue a new EAD. The employer might feel better to work with a citizen or GC or a person of certain ethnic background or national origin. However, thats the kind of decisions the employer is not allowed to make. Employer has to accept EAD, everything else being equal. When the law is not followed and it harms us, we have to fight it back.
I realize employers sometime end up asking questions that they shouldn't like the obvious ones such as age and marital status.

DONT DO THAT.
Let the flowers go to USCIS and let them do whatever they want with the flowers. Kindly dont jinx this campaign by cancelling your orders and asking for refunds.
It's too late flowers have shipped. They will have to be delivered somewhere, it'll just force the fedex/dhl not to accept a forward from USCIS.
