I am a LEGAL immigrant how has waited in the line for Green Card for 10 years. I've paid my taxes, social security, medicare and followed the law. Immigration bureaucracy and inefficiency at USCIS has meant more than 250K of Green Cards within legal limits have gone waste leading to a very long wait for legal immigrants.
Please tell me what I should do - Wait another 10 years? Go back to home country? or jump the fence?

I believe after this new fees, we might have to pay one more time for the renewal and after that we never have to pay for any renewals. So it will not be a factor any more.

When I applied for my wife who was on L2, it took 14 days.

There is a chance that all unused visas over the last several years will get assigned to FB quota and EB folks will loose all those visas for ever.
There is nothing in it for us. In-fact, if this bill passes, they are goin got apply the unused visa numbers towards FB, and we will lose any chance of re-capture, for-ever.
I think, we have a lost cause. The sooner we accept this, the better. We simply do not have the funds, commitment and political support that the illegals enjoy. We all know where the maximum nubver of FB immigrants are from, and they represent a big block of votes, since most of them happen to have the herd mentality, due to lack of education.
We, on the other hand, are educated, well read, tax paying people, who actually think about issues and merits of a person, hence no use to politicians.

Folks,
I am speaking in my personal capacity here. While I am all for freedom of expression and assembly, I don't think that rallies will in any way help our cause. We have to talk to people and participate in various forums to make them aware of our cause. Standing and protesting is not going to help us, because our voice will still be lost in the din...we need to speak where it matters and be heard where it matters...

CNN will always ignore us thanks to our friend there, but has New York Times ever reported our plight? Has Jim Leherer ever talked about us? The main stream media does not even know us!

Another intresting update...
I just checked the USCIS website and found out that the approved H1 which has been reopened has a Last Updated date of 09/30/2007....
09/30/2007 was a Sunday...why is USCIS working on the case on Sunday ???

my 2 cents!!
if you are single and apply for 485 and get a EAD can still being ur wife from India on H4 as long as u DO NOT use EAD and DO NOT get 485 approved.
EAD to me has major benefits for the spouse. I think everyone agrees that 485 retrogression gona happen ... so if that happens u cannot get a 485 approval or add ur wife till almost close to 485 approval .. as ur PD wont be current. In this period u will never be able to use EAD as ur dependent will go out of H4 status ...
Also it is never recommended to use EAD and maintain H1 status ... so to me if you are single and have no plans as of yet to get married u will not use the interim benefits and pay EAD fee every year.
u will be in the 485 queue and if anything changes about green card u are atleast far enough to not to start ur application from beginning... also if for some reason u decide to use ur EAD the way around is ur wife to get another Visa like F1 ....

You can go online and schedule an appointment.. You would need select service on a pending case.. There is no option for pending name check, you have to go the window and explain.. Depending upon service rep, you may or may not get any info... I am trying to figure out if something can be done in situations like ours... FBI name check was a major problem for may people and it took years in some cases.. But, there was law suite and judge ruled that a case must be adjudicated if name check has been pending over 180 days. This helped in clearing large no of pending cases.. A new memo was issued which stated that IO has to get an approval from head office if name check has been pending for more than 180 days...

IV core is doing a great job. One can't ask more of these great guys (and gals)!!
Although I support the idea and my spouse would be benefited by it, allowing H4s to work is a whole different ballgame and way more controversial than the current IV agenda. Your spouses will be able to work once you and they get EADs (although I know you will have to renew annually)...this is way more reasonable.

answer with complete honesty, if YOU got your green card today, would YOU ever be involved in IV again? except maybe when you want some answers during your naturalization stage?

I agree that recapturing lost no's from previous years will be the best possible solution.But to do that we need intervention from the congress and the President needs to sign a bill to recapture the lost no's.To accomplish this goal we need to keep up the momentum generated from this june bulletin fiasco and intensify our lobbying efforts in Washington.
Kudo's to the IV core for their strong campaign in championing our cause.

EVERY SINGLE ITEM on our goals benefits H4 spouses indirectly. Including the short term goals of IV.
Well what eb3_nepa and me are eluding to has no intention of superseeding the main agenda nor is it in anyway a distraction, it just the germination of an idea out of circumstantial frustration. Also if we truly belive what we are doing is right then there is no question of leaving this forum.
We all support the main agenda and also have a very positive attitude that we will see the light of a bright new day very soon. God willing we all will have our GC in 2 years or so.
